BITTERLY cold weather greeted 30 dedicated women for the second round of the Hudson Plumbing and Roofing Stableford event last week at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Helen Gregory (handicap 16) finished with an impressive 40 points and easily claimed the win in Division 1.

Gregory carded 40 off the stick on the front nine and 45 off the stick on the long back nine for 85 off the stick, including one birdie, seven pars and importantly no wipe-outs.

Second place went to Jennifer Van Ritjhoven (15) playing one-under her handicap with 37 points.

Jennifer’s split for the two nines was 44/43 for 87 off the stick and included five three-pointers.

First place in Division 2 went to long-standing member Linley Gray (43), who has been rewarded with her persistence to return to the golfing scene.

Gray had 18/17 for 35 points, including four three-pointers.

Libby Furner (36) claimed second place in Division 2 with 32 points, consisting of 17/15 on the front and back nines.

Earning a ball each in the run-down were Faye Mainwaring, Bernie Jennings, Jess Parsons, Libby Altschwager, Bev Pedlar, Lorraine Stratford and Kate McCormick.

The pro shot on the par 3 eighth hole was won by Gregory.

Second shot on the par 3, sixth hole went to Val Grubb in A Grade, Gail Stephenson in B Grade and Jane Lamont in C Grade on the eighth hole.

This week will see the long-running Veterans Day, with the Veterans 55yr/69yr and Super Veterans 70+ years age groups.

Prizes for the best gross and runner-up winners for each age group and the Veterans Champion comes from the best nett score and the day will be generously sponsored by DJ Interiors.

Meanwhile, 16 women took part in a Stableford round last Saturday in wintery conditions.

Di O’Donnell (23) claimed the honours with 37 points on a count-back.

O’Donnell’s card registered 18 points on the front nine and 19 on the back, with a birdie on the par 3, eighth hole.

Relegated to second place on a count-back was Gemma Winterborn (25), who had a good front nine with 20 points and 17 on the back.

She had six three-pointers on her card.

Third place went to Bev Pedlar (21) who had a consistent game and scored 17 points on each nine for 34 points.
