IN much better playing conditions after the previous week’s inclement stormy weather caused the third round of the Grant and Dianne Perryman short course trophy to be cancelled at the Blue Lake Golf Club, the rescheduled event saw 22 women compete.

The course held up well, albeit heavy underfoot, considering the rainfalls of late.

With the short course handicaps reduced on golflink, Division 1 was 0-19 and Division 2 20-45, the majority still found the course challenging.

In Division 1 Ronda Edwards was able to backup her previous couple of wins with nett 70 for the victory.

Playing off a seven handicap, Edwards had a slow start on the outward nine with 43 strokes, with only a par on the fifth hole leaving a bit of work to be done crossing over to the inward nine.

She did just that, posting 34 strokes that included seven pars after bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes.

Runner-up Cherryl Hill posted 83/12/71 after a respectable 38 strokes on the outward nine that included pars on the third and fourth par 5 holes and a birdie three on the par 4 eighth.

Unfortunately a few too many bogeys among the pars on the 10th and 16th on the inward nine put paid to the top voucher, but was enough for second place.

Handicapper Dianne Perryman finished third, signing for 83/11/72.

She struggled a little on the outward nine with 44 strokes, but was able to get back on track with 39 on the back, with her card including six pars.

In Division 2 the ever-consistent Carol Melhuish was once again in the winner’s circle, this time taking the top voucher after signing for 95/23/72 after splits of 47/48.

A par on the ninth hole was a highlight, but a few too many double-bogeys kept her score to a minimum, but good enough for the win.

Lyn Gill claimed second place, despite too many double-bogeys on her card of 103/29/74.

She did have pars on the par 3 fifth and 15th holes to finish ahead of Bev Pascoe 95/20/75.

Pascoe also had trouble with bogeys and double-bogeys, with a couple of pars on the 13th and 16th holes.

Nearest the pin second shot winners on the par 3 14th hole were Edwards in Division 1 and Pascoe in Division 2.

Edwards also claimed the pro shot.

Birdie prizes went to Hill on the eighth hole and Johanna Gogan, with chip-in ferret prizes won by Melhuish on the second, Hill the ninth and Gill on the 11th.

Tomorrow is the fourth and final round of the short course trophy in stableford format.

Saturday’s early morning golfers were a little better off weather wise than those teeing off a bit later when the rain settled in to create casual water on some of the greens.

A handful of the 14 women registered in the stableford competition decided to retire halfway round and kudos to those who pushed through.

One such person was the winner Vivienne Wilson, signing for 28 points off her 36 handicap with splits of 11/17.

Ronda Edwards was relegated to second after a count-back from Wilson and Karen Panagopoulos, all posting 28 points.

Edwards and Panagopoulos both had splits of 12/16.

All players seemed to find the outward nine the hardest which was reflected in the scoring.

Annette Ford, Josie Ashby, Helen Stratford and Jorja Morale all posted 26 points.

Morale won a ball for the best front nine score.
