TANTANOOLA 53 D KONGORONG 40

Round 9 of Mid South East netball at Kongorong saw some poor conditions with a wet court.

The first quarter saw both Tantanoola and Kongorong go hard at the ball and both teams took time to settle.

Kongorong’s Evie Sealey was on from the first whistle, working hard with the front cut and making the most of the ball under the post.

However, the Tigers settled earlier than the young Hawks, with the attack of Tantanoola getting a good look at the ball.

The Hawks eventually settled and the scores were even at the first break.

The second quarter saw the defence for both teams intensify.

Tayla Rowe for the Tigers and Riley Buckingham for the Hawks battled hard in the circle, both at times influential for their respective sides through the second term.

The Tigers shooters had a dominant quarter in particular with Jami Walker in goal attack shooting seven goals from eight attempts, fed well by Casey Walker and Kate Varcoe.

Tantanoola broke away to lead by seven goals at half time with a 27-20 scoreline.

The Hawks went into the third quarter with work to do and the defensive pressure lifted, not giving the Tigers any easy ball.

Rach Perry worked overtime in centre for the Hawks, both on the offensive and defensive, while Tiger Kate Bromley applied pressure at goal defence and led Tantanoola’s defensive line to give her team a lift.

Emma Gould slipped into the goal attack position while Walker found another gear, leading the Tigers to outscore the Hawks 13-7 as they worked the ball down the court fast and accurately.

Bromley continued down the defensive end for the Tigers working overtime for her side while Riley Buckingham and Gould did not ease up pace in a thrilling contest down the court.

The Hawks pushed to make the last quarter an even one but it was the Tigers that claimed a comfortable win.

Best players for the victors were Casey Walker and Rowe, with Perry and Lightbody best for Kongorong.
