ROBE claimed an emphatic win over Nangwarry in Round 9 of Mid South Eastern football with a comprehensive four-quarter display.

In unenviable playing conditions, the Roosters stormed out of the blocks to take a 34-point lead at the first break and never looked back.

Robe coach Nathan Brown was pleased with the way his side stepped up in the wet weather.

“Considering the conditions, I thought we played really well,” he said.

“They were absolutely horrible, it was pretty breezy and extremely wet as well.

“There was a bit of rain through the game, the oval was slippery and the ball was pretty hard to deal with and use effectively but we managed to do that, which was pleasing.”

Robe kicked seven goals in the second quarter and held a monster 61-point lead at half time.

Things only got worse for Nangwarry in the third stanza as the Roosters continued to pile on the misery and the hosts took a 122-24 lead at the final change.

Robe then cruised to victory in the final quarter with an extra three majors to put the icing on the cake.

Brown was pleased with the fact his side managed to post such a high score on a day where playing was made all the more difficult.

“21.19 on a day like that is pretty handy with the wet weather, heavy footy and the wind blowing a gale,” he said.

George Dutton was best on ground for Robe, while Sam Huebner was a threat in the forward line with four goals for the game.

“I thought George Dutton’s first half in particular was really good,” Brown said.

“Henry Lawrie has been solid for us all year and he had another standout game.

“Sam Huebner played a different role for us this week.

“He played in the forward pocket and kicked a couple of big goals early to get us going.”

Robe faithful also got to see Kaiden Carter and Zack Donnelly make their A Grade debuts for the club on Saturday.

“Young Kaiden Carter kicked two goals in his debut game,” Brown said.

“He is only a second year Senior Colt player and I thought he was really good for us.

“Zack Donnelly was really good, unfortunately he did a hamstring in the second quarter so he sat out the rest of the game which was a bit unfortunate.

“He brings a lot of experience, he is a Naracoorte boy and played a lot of A Grade footy out there and coached as well.

“We missed him a little bit in that second half but his first half was really good.”

For Nangwarry, Josh Smith was best on ground, while Ben Just, Jack Stocker, Tom Vanderhorst and Joel Virtanen all kicked one goal each.
