Weather closes in

VICTOR: Saturday stroke round winner Rhonda Edwards. Picture: SUBMITTED

DUE to the inclement weather last Wednesday causing flooding of some fairways and greens, the short course competition for the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club was cancelled and will be played at a later date.

In what could be only be described as a complete turnaround in the weather, last Saturday 11 women played in the stroke competition.

Playing off a 16 handicap, Ronda Edwards deserved her win coming in one under par.

The course was heavy underfoot in parts and the pin placements set at the back of most greens demanded spot-on chipping and putting.

Edwards, known for her putting skills, did struggle at times, especially on the back nine where she had 46 strokes, even with pars on the 11th and 14th holes.

Her front nine of 41 strokes set the tone that included a par on the third hole and a birdie on the downhill par 3 fifth.

Jorja Morale’s 104/26/78 was good enough to place her second after a count-back from Josie Ashby 100/22/78.

Morale recorded a par on the second hole and a excellent birdie-three on the 13th.

Ashby had pars on the third and fourth holes, as well as on the fifth and 16th.

Morale added to her prizes winning the long drive with a monster hit.
