GLENCOE claimed a hard-fought victory over Tantanoola in Round 8 of Mid South East netball on Saturday.

The Murphies were without Chantelle Cocks, but had the inclusion of last year premiership player Malinda Markiewicz (Foster) at goal shooter.

Tantanoola recorded the first goal through Keryl Ousey, with Glencoe missing the first, but was rebounded by Jenna Paproth to score.

Glencoe got off to a small lead with Tantanoola pegging it back as Emma Gould and Ousey’s height became a problem for the Glencoe defenders.

Only two goals separated the sides at the first break.

Tantanoola moved Kate Bromley to goal keeper and Tayla Rowe to goal defence at the start of the second quarter.

The Tigers showed some good transition, with Ousey shooting a long bomb to close the gap.

However, Glencoe stepped up the mid-court pressure causing wayward passes by Tantanoola to go to the break three goals up.

Tantanoola changed Casey Walker to wing attack and Jami Walker to wing defence at half time, while Glencoe remained unchanged for the game.

Glencoe started strongly with patient feeding from Donna Jaeschke and Alice Tentye.

Tantanoola pushed back with a number of intercepts from Tayla Rowe, but Glencoe continued to have answers and took care of their possessions.

Passing turnovers from Tantanoola were punished by Foster and Paproth who slotted back into a familiar combination from the 2022 season.

Chelsea Owen and Sarah Edwards created opportunities for their side with tight checking defence.

Going into the last quarter Glencoe held a 40-34 lead, with Tantanoola scoring the first goal.

Casey Walker’s tight checking provided an early intercept, along with another from Rowe as the Tigers tried to push back the score line, but Glencoe had all the answers.

The Murphies’ transition down court under the direction of Jaeschke was finished off with the experience, screens and accuracy from Foster and Paproth.

Foster finished with 40 of the 56 of Glencoe’s goals and was a focal point, finishing with a long shot with just a second to go.

Best players for the victors were Owen and Jaeschke, with Rowe and Casey Walker best for Tantanoola.
