WEST GAMBIER v NORTH GAMBIER

ROUND 7 of Western Border football presents a challenge for North Gambier as it travels across town to visit an in-form West Gambier.

North enters the bout off a last-quarter comeback against South Gambier, while the Roos never looked troubled on their way to a 45-point success over Casterton Sandford.

Last time the two sides met the Tigers backed up a short turnaround from the midweek Anzac Day fixture and their opponent cruised out to a 60-point victory.

Much of the damage was done in the second half as North ran out of legs – something which should not be the case this round.

The Tigers have been in good form but would be desperate for a win over a top-two team.

Back in Round 2 ruckman Mitchell Kelton was best against the Roos and he comes off another best-on-ground performance against South last week.

He will be one to watch from North, while the likes of Tyson Christopherson,

The Tigers’ attack has become quite the force, with Sam Stafford, Toby deWit and Dale Bachmann all strong in the air, while finishing off strongly.

The will keep the West defence on its toes, but fortunately for the Roos their back six have been in solid form.

Jesse Pfitzner is the likely candidate to limit either Stafford or deWit on the day, while Lewis Lean and Brandon Newton provide plenty of drive out of the backline.

Down the other end coach Daron McElroy has had a golden boot, with a couple of big hauls already this season while rotating out of the ruck duties.

Braiden Ousey plays a similar role, taking on the ruck while McElroy is elsewhere and he has also had his share in front of the big sticks.

Michael Minuzzo has been consistent as well, but there are no limits on the Roos’ attack with anyone able to stand up when required.

West will certainly take to its home deck as the safe bet, but expect more of a fight from North this time around.
