GOLFERS from 10 clubs across the Limestone coast and Western Victoria descended on the Blue Lake Golf Club last Thursday for the women’s annual Open Day tournament.
The weather was superb and the course was presented in top condition, thanks to greenkeeper Dan Christian and the many helpers.
The gross win went to the Mount Gambier Golf Club team of Faye Mainwaring and Helen Gregory, after a count-back from Portland’s Barb Bibby and Jill Treloar.
Nett winners were Blue Lake’s Helen Myers and Lee-Anne Medhurst with a score of 69 ¼.
Runners-up were Mount Gambier’s Bernie Jennings and Karen Forster, 70 ¾, from Port MacDonnell’s Courtney Lewis and Emily Taylor, 73 c/b.
Penola’s Penny Young and Deb Redman (73) claimed fourth place, from Millicent’s Mary Windsor and Bec Shanks, 73 ¾.
Long drives went to A Grade’s Jill Treloar on the 17th hole and B Grade’s Courtney Lewis on the sixth.

After announcing the winners results, a special presentation was made to Noel Barr thanking him and his dealership for his 25 years of sponsorship of this major event.
Barr made mention of his relationship with the Blue Lake Golf Club, saying his late father Clarrie Barr was in the first intake of members when it was only a nine-hole course and is delighted to continue the sponsorship.
A memorial plaque is situated in the wall above the seat heading to the first hole.
A highlight of the day was a hole-in-one for Penola Golf Club member Deb Redman on the par 3 fifth hole.
