Medhurst shows his class

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club has held two shoots recently with the usual monthly competition held on Saturday as well as a skeet competition held in April.

The opening event of the sporting clays and skeet competition was the 50-target sporting clays.

After a shoot-off, Timothy Widdison just edged out Ken Atkin to win AA Grade.

Ernie Scheidl shot an impressive 46/50 to win A Grade, while Tony Sellars was runner-up.

B Grade was taken out by Warren Lindner with a score of 42/50, while Darren Murrell was runner-up two targets behind.

Scott Fleming won C Grade ahead of runner-up Reece Fleming.

The 25-target skeet championship event was impressively shot and Liz Rymill led the way with a score of 24/25 to win AA Grade.

Jeremy Kent shot a perfect 25/25 to claim victory in A Grade ahead of Atkin.

Andrew Hoare won B Grade, while Joe Densley edged out Scott Fleming to win C Grade.

The opening event of Saturday’s monthly shoot was the Winchester Team Competition, with a team from Western Victoria taking on the South East.

After all the shooters had shot, a count up of the top 10 team members was taken and the South East emerged victorious with a very impressive score of 297/300.

Tom Jenkins shot 43/43 to win the highgun after a shoot-off.

The 30-target Pointscore Championship event was taken out by Max Medhurst who was in top form with a perfect 132/132 to win AA Grade.

Fiona Dobbins shot a near-perfect 89/90 to narrowly defeat Harry Clark in A Grade.

Dale Robertson just edged out Rick Bannerman in B Grade and after a shoot-off, Jake Henningsen held off Frank Kentish in C Grade.

The Alf Moody Memorial 30-target Double Barrel Championship was up next and this event was shot with great accuracy as 13 competitors shot perfect scores and shoot-offs were again needed in all grades.

Ash Hawker was in fine form and after an extensive shoot-off, won AA Grade from Don Pratt with a score of 110/110.

Steve Chambers shot a solid 53/54 to win A Grade, while Nicola Dunn was runner-up on 43/44.

Scott Davis also shot 53/54 to win B Grade, while Peter Winser was runner-up and Lincoln Brown was victorious in C Grade.

The Black Crow Club gained a new member in Stephen Holdsworth whilst members Sam Rundell, Jamie Dunn, Andrew Hoare and Denis Blok donated to the fund.

The highgun award was won by Medhurst with an exceptional score of 120/120.

The next competition will be the South Australian State 100 Target Sporting Clays Championship on June 3.
