KALANGADOO 75 d TANTANOOLA 53

Kalangadoo chalked up a strong victory over Tantanoola in Round 5 of Mid South East netball on Saturday.

Both teams began strong, with the contest going goal-for-goal as both attack lines scored with ease.

Tantanoola’s Keryl Ousey was a focal point in the goal circle and combined effectively with Jami Walker.

Kalangadoo took until midway through the quarter to develop momentum, with Lauren Kain and Lara Munro combining well to turn over the ball, while Abbey Duncan and Ebony McDiarmid took no time to covert.

Kalangadoo went into the first break with a nine-goal advantage.

The second quarter saw the Tigers begin to find their rhythm, with centre Kate Varcoe driving strong and finding good position on the goal circle.

Kalangadoo wing defence Jane Auld worked hard to limit Casey Walker’s feeding opportunities and created turnovers for her side, as the Magpies went to the main break with a six-goal lead.

Kalangadoo took the opportunity at half time to switch circle defenders, moving Munro out to goal defence and Kain back to goal keeper, which had an immediate impact, with a strong defensive effort by forcing errors and creating turnovers.

McDiarmid had a solid quarter in the circle, shooting 12 goals from 12 attempts to help Kalangadoo extend the lead to 16 at the break.

Both teams remained unchanged going into the last quarter, which saw Tantanoola’s defence of Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe step up their intensity to make Kalangadoo goalies earn every possession.

Magpies’ wing attack Chloe Peacock was able to find space and feed her goalies accurately as they extended the lead for a 76-53 victory.

Best players for Kalangadoo were Duncan and Munro, with Varcoe and Casey Walker best for Tantanoola.
