PORT MACDONNELL 64 d NANGWARRY 33

Nangwarry travelled down to the coast to face a tough Port MacDonnell outfit in Round 5 of Mid South East netball on Saturday.

The Demons set the scene early, as goal attack Megan Hein sank her first goal within the first few seconds of the game.

Saints defenders Chrystal Lock and Kayla Gray had their work cut out against Hein and Kori Collins, but there were some missed opportunities which Gray rebounded and Lock drove well out of defence.

At the other end Hayley Vanderhorst and Demi Hoffmeister gave their all in goals for the Saints, against the tough Demon defence duo of Alana Berkefeld and Alysha Coon.

Port MacDonnell opened a 16-8 advantage at quarter time.

The second quarter saw Nangwarry move Cassie Dinnison to wing attack and Brittany Dycer to centre, while the Demons made no changes.

The mid-court battle between Dinnison and Kate Faint was entertaining, with neither player giving an inch.

Demons’ centre Shannon Scheidl was in good form, providing plenty of drive.

Collins also stepped up to sink 12 goals, while Chrystal Lock held Hein to just three.

Both teams made changes at half time, as Port MacDonnell brought on the fresh legs of Liza Mutch to wing defence, moving Scheidl to wing attack and the experienced Michelle Moore into centre.

Alysha Coon was rested for a quarter, with Berkefeld moving back to goal keeper and Faint taking the goal defence bib.

Nangwarry switched Vanderhorst and Hoffmeister.

The fresh legs of Mutch were a big advantage through the middle for the Demons, with hein shooting 11 goals for the quarter.

The final quarter saw Coon return for the Demons at goal defence, Michelle Moore move to wing defence and Mutch went into centre.

The Saints again swapped Dinnison and Dycer.

The Saints goalies had a more accurate quarter, while defenders Lock and Gray really gained some impressive touches and rebounding.

However, Collins and Hein proved too strong, shooting 17 for the last quarter for a 64-33 victory.

Best players for the victors were Berkefeld and Scheidl, with Lock and Gray best for the Saints.
