EAST GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER

EAST Gambier certainly challenged reigning premiers West Gambier for three quarters last weekend.

Despite the eventual loss, confidence will be growing in its new-look line-up as it takes on North Gambier for Round 4 of Western Border netball.

The Tigers also have a fresh look, one which certainly found its feet with a strong Round 3 victory over Millicent.

The Bulldogs will be hampered by a long-term knee injury to goal attack Casey Horrigan – forcing another change to the already significantly restructured roster.

However, with the Likes of Morgan Amy and Bo Creek patrolling the defensive end, Tarsh McCallum bringing her leadership and speed to the mid court and Renee Henke showing good composure and accuracy in the shooting circle, East will still be in the mix in 2023.

The team also has the X factor of Chloe Perryman, who can impact in all three areas of the court.

Her tenacity and willingness to contest every ball always looms as critical to the Bulldogs’ fortunes.

North also has plenty of new faces in its side but the Tigers have the advantage of a more settled combination over the last two outings.

Grace Potts has dominated the shooting circle as North looked to life without retired star shooter Caroline Wakefield, while Macey Griffith combines just as well with her new shooting partner.

At the other end, Noni McConnell has been super consistent at goal defence, whether teaming with Mikaila Pitt or teenager Stella Mobbs and the tight checking North defensive circle will challenge the East frontline.

North’s mid court has the class and experience of Brianna Walters and Mel Renko, as well as the athleticism and raw talent of Lauran Norman.

At this early stage in the season, the more settled Tigers should secure the win.
