Perryman leads the way

WINNER: Dianne Perryman claimed the win in Division 1 last week at the Blue Lake Golf Club. Picture: SUBMITTED.

IN blustery, cold and wet conditions at the Blue Lake Golf Club there were 17 women who took part in the third round of the Silver Salver on Wednesday.

In a difficult day for golfers, Division 1’s Dianne Perryman led the way with a score of two down

Perryman started strongly with pars on the first and third holes to kick-start her round in style.

She also recorded handicap plusses on the sixth and seventh holes to turn three up.

However, the back nine proved a challenge to score with a score of five down undoing all the hard work on the front nine.

Trudy Herbert ended the day with a score of five down and would be happy to have steadied the ship after a poor start to the day.

Herbert reached the halfway point at five down and things were not looking promising but she lifted and finished square on the back nine to help her win the second-place count-back from Sue Agars.

Agars was four down on the front nine and also rallied om the back nine adding pars on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes to score one down on the inward nine.

Carol Meluish was the best in Division 2 and signed for six down after a difficult front nine.

It could have been much worse for Meluish as she was six down at the turn but she put in a solid back nine and finished square to the card on the home straight to stay on six down.

Her back nine was solid and included three plusses and mixed half and minus scores.

Lesley McPherson would probably like to forget her day as she scored 12 down but collected a voucher for her tenacity.

Most of the special event prizes were won by Josie Ashby for nearest to the pin second shot on the 16th hole from a chip-in ferret resulting in a birdie along with the pro-shot on the fifth.

Bev Pascoe also had a chip-in ferret on the eighth and 15th holes.

Tomorrow is the state-run Shylie Rymill Foursomes and Club Foursome Championships at the Blue Lake Golf Club.

SATURDAY RESULTS

In much improved weather for another par competition, it was Kate Hommelhoff backing up last week’s win and having dropped two strokes off her handicap, played off 26.

Hommelhoff finished one down and her day was highlighted by a solid back nine which saw her finish square to the card with a birdie on the 11th hole and a par on the 14th.

Dianne Perryman is often amongst the podium places and signed for three down to take the second-place voucher.

Perryman’s front nine included a par on the fifth hole and handicap plusses on the sixth and seventh.

Perryman took out second place on a count-back from Josie Ashby, who also posted three down.

Ashby’s card on the front nine showed nine halved holes and she would have been feeling positive at the turn.

However, the back nine threw up a variety of scores, which included five minuses, two halved holes and pars on the 14th and 15th holes.
