IN a replay of last year’s elimination final, the Demons took the sting out of the Mozzies with a comprehensive win in Round 4 of Mid South Eastern football.

Port MacDonnell coach Josh Woodall said it was pleasing for his side to bounce back after their defeat to Robe a week earlier.

“It was a really good full-team effort for four quarters,” Woodall said.

The game started as an arm-wrestle with both sides struggling to find a foothold in the game.

However, a late for Port MacDonnell meant the hosts went into quarter time with a 14-point lead.

From there, it was all downhill for Mount Burr as the Demons rose above and took control of the contest.

“The first quarter I think we had plenty of the footy but we clogged up our forward line and it was pretty congested,” Woodall said.

“So we opened the forward line a little bit more in the second and third (quarters) and it opened up the game.”

After a game-changing second quarter which saw the visitors head into the long break with a 31-point lead, Port MacDonnell came out firing in the third term.

The Demons kicked nine goals and restricted the Mozzies to just two minor scores to take a 105-20 lead with one quarter to play.

Port MacDonnell then took its foot off the gas a touch in the last stanza as it added just three goals to the score but still restricted Mount Burr to one major as it ran out 95-point victors.

Colby Munro was the star of the show as he kicked seven goals and was named best on ground for the Demons.

“He is moving really well and he hit the scoreboard as well,” Woodall said.

“Him, Ned Wilke and Christian Howlett all had really good games but across the board it was pretty hard to pick best players.”

Young ruckman Calum Sparkes was best on ground for the Mozzies in a tough encounter.

Howlett was a persistent threat in the forward line and kicked four majors, while Mark Smith impressed with three.
