Racing money for charity

FULL THROTTLE: Riders will descend on McNamara Park this weekend for the Cancer Council Cup.

MCNAMARA Park will be bustling with excitement this Mother’s Day weekend with the Cancer Council Cup being contested.

As an addition to the regular Seniors’ race meeting held at McNamara Park Raceway, the Mount Gambier Motorcycle Club is incorporating Cancer Council Cup feature races.

With too many people impacted by cancer, the decision was made by the volunteer-based club to give back to the community in a meaningful way.

Final placings will be determined by a combination of a rider’s finishing position in the race and a time bonus depending on how much money the rider raised for the Cancer Council.

With around 100 riders entered, the meeting promises to be a great spectacle, with a wide range of bikes of all vintages pushed to their limits by riders who refuse to let age slow them down.

The public is invited to be involved as well, either by purchasing raffle tickets, or donating money to a particular rider, thereby increasing their chances of winning.

Qualifying takes place Saturday morning, with racing Saturday afternoon and all-day Sunday, culminating with the Cancer Council Cup feature races.

Entry is $10 per day or $15 for the weekend, with under 16 free.
