KALANGADOO 58 d MOUNT BURR 32

A STRONG outing from the Magpies produced a 26-goal win over a visiting Mount Burr in Round 3 of Mid South East netball.

Both teams started well with high pressure across the court.

Early in the first quarter Mount Burr’s circle defenders Megan Thiele and Olivia Dean combined effectively to force Kalangadoo goalies Abbey Duncan and Lara Munro to work hard to find space.

Laura Schultz made her mark on the game for the Mozzies, reading the play well and feeding her goalies accurately, but Kalangadoo still entered the first break with a 10-goal advantage.

Mount Burr made positional changes at the break and brought Lauren Wheeler to wing attack and moved Schultz into goal attack.

Wheeler and Kalangadoo’s Jane Auld had a tight tussle and neither would give an inch.

Mozzies goal shooter Ebony Clark had a solid quarter and shot at 100 per cent.

Regardless, the Magpies extended their lead and entered half time with a 30-14 goal buffer.

The Mozzies brought fresh legs on with the addition of Simone Westerman to goal keeper which initially unsettled the Kalangadoo goal circle.

However, the Magpies increased their defensive pressure to counter the move with Auld and Lauren Kain forcing errors and turning the ball back down the court.

Injury concerns late in the third quarter and early into the fourth caused Mount Burr to utilise most of its bench.

This allowed the more settled Magpies to keep finding space through the mid court and feed goalies with precision.

Thiele continued to work hard on Duncan who combined well with Munro to convert accurately.

With Kalangadoo’s defensive pressure and experience it was able to extend the lead out to 26 by the final whistle.

Munro and Chloe Peacock were named the Magpies’ best, while Thiele and Caitlyn Payne received the honours for the Mozzies.
