THE Mount Gambier Golf Club held its club championships last week alongside a stableford round where 22 women competed in fine autumn conditions.

Hope Bliss claimed the victory on a count-back with her score of 36 points which included splits of 15 and 21.

Bliss was in fine form on the back nine and scored five three-pointers to seal the win.

Carol Davis was the unlucky golfer to lose the count-back despite playing very consistently all day.

Her 36 points came from even splits of 18 on both nines.

Jeannette Braun claimed third place with 34 points.

She stormed home on the inward nine with five three-pointers and scored 20 points to seal the final place on the podium.

The ball run-down went to Carol Smith and Di O’Donnell.

Bev Pedlar took home three balls for her pro shot on the par-three eighth hole, while Di Norman, Vicki Clark and Gail Watson were the winners on the par-five 17th hole.

The quarter-finals preceded the stableford competition and the winners in the Club Championship were Jennifer Van Rijthoven, Faye Mainwaring, Janina Morrison and Bernie Jennings.

In B Grade, Helen McIntyre will take on Penne Saffin, while Kate McCormick will face Braun in the semi-finals.

C Grade’s Betty McKechnie will play against Trudy Johnson, while Mary Kentish and Lizzie Clements will do battle.

SATURDAY

There were 16 women who participated in a stableford competition on a pleasant, calm and windless day at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

The in-form Carol Smith took home the victory after a count-back.

She scored 36 points with splits of 19 and 17 and her round was highlighted by a birdie on the final hole.

Trudy Johnson fell marginally short of claiming victory after she scored 36 points and also had splits of 19 and 17.

The count-back then went off the final six holes, where Smith had outscored Johnson by three points.

Faye Mainwaring played a very consistent game and scored 34 points with 17 on each nine.
