THE ladder-leading Mount Gambier Pioneers women will look to continue their undefeated start to the NBL1 South season when they host the Keilor Thunder at Wulanda on Saturday night.

The Pioneers have won four games from four and boast an impressive percentage of 129.4.

Their opponents on the other hand, have won one game from three and currently occupy 14th place on the ladder.

What is arguably most exciting about the Pioneers’ start to the season is the fact they have done it without their exciting recruit Zitina Aokuso with her being unavailable due to Opals commitments.

In the opening four games, Miela Goodchild has led the Pioneers in points-scored with 23.75 points per game and is seventh in the competition for scoring.

Along with causing opposition defences plenty of trouble she has also made her presence known around the rim with 8.25 rebounds per game and has recorded two double-doubles already this season.

She will be supported by captain Cassandra Brown, who has scored 18 points per game along with eight rebounds per game this season.

The Pioneers seemingly have endless options on the offensive end, as Isabella Brancatisano, Haliegh Reinoehl, Imogen Rock, Keryl Ousey and Sherrie Calleia make them a versatile side and a threat both from the perimeter and in the paint.

Grace Graham will be a player to watch from the visitors as she led the way for the Thunder when they defeated Ballarat last weekend with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

With just the one game for Mount Gambier this weekend, this is a clash not to be missed and action will get underway at Wulanda at 6pm.
