Mount Burr 63 d Nangwarry 39

MOUNT Burr claimed a strong victory against Nangwarry in Round 1 of Mid South East netball on Saturday, despite a solid start from the home side.

The Mozzies settled earlier on the Saints home court, going a couple of goals up through some good attack from Laura Schultz.

The Saints pushed back and their defence worked overtime, with Kayla Gray getting some hands to the ball and they transitioned well down the court.

Demi Hoffmeister scored well for the Saints, which saw the scores tied at 11 each at the first break.

Mount Burr then hit the court running in the second term and began to put some daylight between the two sides.

The Mozzies defence tightened up and made Nangwarry work for every goal.

Megan Thiele started to pick up the pace, getting hands to many balls for Mount Burr.

Hayley Burner and Schultz had a good tussle through the centre, with both driving well for their teams.

However, Nangwarry struggled to get it out of defence at times, while Ebony Clarke lifted and combined well with Lauren Wheeler, making Gray and Chrystal Lock work hard for any touches.

By the main break Mount Burr had created a 12-goal advantage and looked to be on top.

At the break Lock went to wing defence and Jemma Parsons came on at goal defence for the Saints.

The Mozzies brought Simone Westerman on to wing defence, with Caitlyn Payne swapping to wing attack.

The Saints lifted again, with a more-even result.

Kate Bizko started to move and position well, along with some good feeding by Cassie Dinnison and Burner.

Wheeler moved and rebounded well for the Mozzies and Clarke continued her accuracy, while Thiele made Hoffmeister work for every goal.

Mount Burr stretched its margin slightly to lead by 15 goals at the final break.

Nangwarry struggled in the final quarter, with some poor passing choices.

Schultz dominated through the centre and in the end the Mozzies enjoyed a big win.

Best players for the victors were Thiele and Schultz, with Hoffmeister and Dinnison best for Nangwarry.
