THE March monthly medal was contested at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week and Division 2’s Bev Pascoe took home the victory after an impressive day on the fairways.

The stroke competition coincided with the second round of the captain’s trophy as well as the third and final round of qualifying for the 2023 Handicap championships for Division 1 and 2.

The long course set-up was indicative of the scores posted and the best score of the day came from Rosemary Martland, who finished with a score of 89/14/75.

Her front and back nine splits of 44/45 included a birdie on the fifth hole as well as pars on the 16th and 17th holes.

Martland can attribute her win to the flat-stick after she accumulated only 29 putts and won her division’s least putts prize.

Helen Myers and Dianne Perryman both carded 96/19/77 which forced a count-back.

The former took second place thanks to a better back-nine score.

Myers had outward and inward scores of 52 and 44 with pars on the 15th and 17th holes.

Perryman had splits of 49 and 47.

Josie Ashby won the nearest to the pin for the second shot on the second hole.

Pascoe took home the win in Division 2 with a score of 106/31/75.

She was consistent throughout with splits of 54 and 52 and parred the fifth and 16th holes.

Pascoe also won the nearest to the pin second shot prize along with the least putts prize for her division with 30.

Second on the podium was Carol Melhuish with a score of 112/36/74 and Lyn Annand’s 111/33/78 was enough to claim the last place on the podium.

There were 15 women who took part in the par competition on Saturday and golfers were greeted with mild conditions.

Cherryl Hill claimed the win and finished square to the card with seven pars and two handicap plusses.

Helen Stratford was runner-up after she finished one down.

She started on the 10th and picked up a par on the 12th as well as a birdie on the 14th.

However, her front nine score of two down proved costly.

Lyn Annand finished third with a score of one down as well.

After a poor front nine, Annand fought back on the back nine to claim the last podium place.

The Handicap Championships are set to tee-off at the Blue Lake Golf Club this week, while a stableford competition will be held for those not in the finals.
