Blue Lake Y swimmers dominate

THERE were two swimmers who represented the Blue Lake Y Swimming Club at the 2023 SA State Long Course Age Championships at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre over the weekend.

Blue Lake Y’s Darcy Hodges had an unforgettable weekend as she took home a swag of medals across a range of events.

The 11-year-old claimed gold medals in the female 50-metre backstroke, 100-metre breaststroke, 50-metre breaststroke and 100 backstroke events.

Hodges picked up silver in the 50-metre freestyle and 200-metre individual medley as well as bronze in the 50-metre butterfly and 100-metre freestyle.

She also backed this up with a fifth-placed finish in the 200-metre freestyle and put in a personal-best time.

Hodges currently the SA Country Championship record for 11 years and under 50-metre and 100-metre breaststroke and the SA Long Course female country breaststroke record for 11 years and under.

After her impressive performances over the weekend, she will now attend the swimming SAPSASA State Championships in May and then will go on to compete in the National School Sports Championships in Sydney in August.

Haydn Lowe was also in action over the weekend and in nine events.

Out of those nine events, he made four finals and was reserve for two others.

In the 50-metre butterfly final, Lowe finished in eighth.

He finished ninth in the 100-metre backstroke final.

In the 100 and 50 metres breaststroke finals, Lowe set new personal-bests and finished fourth in the 100-metre event and eighth in the 50.
