A BUSY day faced 25 women at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week, with the delayed February monthly medal combined with the usual list of events.

That included the first round of the Collins Court Butcher Captains Trophy and the first of three qualifying rounds of the Belgiornos Cafe Handicap Championships.

With the nett score of the day, Lee-Anne Medhurst was the monthly medal winner and also the Division 1 winner, signing for 98/25/73, one stroke over the daily scratch rating of 72.

It was a long course set-up and having to contend with a few showers and gusty wind, Medhurst played consistently for splits of 49/49, including pars on the second, fourth, 15th and 16th holes.

A count-back was required between Rosemary Martland 91/13/78 and Cherryl Hill 100/22/78, with the former taking the second-place voucher with the better back-nine score.

Martland had splits of 47/44 which included pars on the first and 17th holes.

Hill had a good front nine of 47, with pars on the second and third holes, but unfortunately a little too much red ink resulted in 53 strokes on the back nine.

The purchase of a new golf cart for Division 2 player Lyn Gill was all the inspiration needed to get over the line and sit on top of the podium.

Her score of 120/45/75 came from splits of 62/58, just three over her handicap.

Runner-up honours went to Lynda Nannings, who is on a roll from her recent C Grade win at the Southern Ports Golf Week.

She posted a score of 106/30/76, with 56 on the front nine, bettered by six strokes for 50 on the back.

Third place went to Lyn Annand with 112/34/78.

She also had a slow start on the front nine with 60 strokes and able to shave off eight strokes on the back for 52, which included a par on the 16th hole.

Division 1’s Kate Hommelhoff and Division 2’s Nannings were nearest the pin second-shot winner’s.

Helen Myers claimed the pro-shot winner, while Martland and Nannings won the least putt prizes.

Chocolate bar prizes to went to Nannings sixth hole, Trudy Herbert on the eighth and Annand on the 15th for chip-in ferrets.

Favourable weather once again greeted the 11 women contesting the stroke competition on Saturday and Bev Pascoe was the winner, signing for 104/31/73.

Her front nine of 52 included pars on the fifth and ninth holes.

The back nine of 52 had no pars but showed consistency.

Hommelhoff was back in the winner’s circle, scoring 104/29/75.

it included pars on the fifth and seventh holes, but unfortunately double bogeys on the first and 12th.

A count-back was required for third place between Helen Stratford 93/17/76 and Rosemary Martland 90/14/76, the former taking the voucher.

Dianne Perryman won the longest drive prize.
