THE countdown to Mount Gambier and District baseball finals is on and the top contenders continued to show their might in Division 1 over the weekend.

Tigers and Federals met on a chilly Friday night for Round 19, with the former set to feature in the post-season action, while Federals misses out in 2023.

Tigers looking to make the last couple of weeks productive and ensure they are fined tuned for finals.

Alex Reppin was in fine form on the hill for Tigers with 12 strikeouts over six innings, while giving up just one hit.

Tigers were also clean in the field and veteran coach Karl Ransom enjoyed watching from the bench as the young side took control of the game.

With the bat Tigers managed to bring home four runs across the nine innings, while Federals failed to cross the plate.

Tigers will now play South Indians this Friday night in a finals rehearsal.

The two teams will meet again in two weeks for a shot at playing Centrals in the grand final.

In Saturday’s Round 19 clash Centrals kept its unbeaten streak alive with a win over South.

It was a game which meant little to the standings and with one more week of home-and-away matches to be played, Centrals sits in a good position to finish the minor rounds undefeated.

They claimed a solid 10-0 win over the Indians, with solid plays throughout the day.

Centrals will head into this week’s meeting with Federals buoyed with confidence, before enjoying a week off.

A battle with either Tigers or South in the big dance will follow, with season honours on the line.

Division 2 will kick start its finals series a week earlier, with Tigers and Millicent facing off this weekend for a place in the decider.

Tigers will look to win a third consecutive Division 2 premiership.

In the other match, South will take on Centrals, with the losing side finished for season 2023.
