THE annual Laurie Fox Memorial Classic Master of Mac Park will take place this weekend, with three days of historic motorcycle action on display.

A solid field has entered for the event, which offers a range of categories for machines of all ages.

In all there are 20 different classes to be raced and won, catering for a mix of bike ages and capacities, from Period 2 (about 80 years old) through to Period 6 (25 years old).

“We have around 110 riders with many bringing multiple bikes,” Mount Gambier Motorcycle Club president Alex Trnovsky told The Border Watch this week.

“That is slightly up from last year.”

Among the strong list of riders, the father son battle between David and Stephen Jones is sure to attract some interest again in the sidecar event.

Formerly co-drivers, the duo now compete on seperate outfits with the rivalry sure to be fierce.

The event kicks off today with an optional practice day, prior to qualifying tomorrow morning.

Racing will then start Saturday afternoon, followed by another full day of racing on Sunday.

It all culminates with the Classic Master of Mac Park feature races, as well as the Laurie Fox Memorial sidecar handicap races, which always provide plenty of entertainment.

“The weather is looking good, so it should be a good crowd as we build on the success of the National Historic Championships held last year,” Trnovsky said.

Spectators are also welcome to wander through the pits and get up close and personal to some pieces of motorcycle history.
