KEN Whitehead had the round of the day last Thursday after he posted 40 points and 75 off the stick to claim victory at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.
Whitehead sealed the win by just one point over Shane Brooks, who also shot 75 off the stick but ended on 39 points.
Gary Wilson, Matt Bryant and Stephen Herbert all posted 38 points, while Chris Lynch, Craig Foster, David McPherson and Michael Foran all finished on 37 points.
The ball run down extended to 35 points with Peter Dempsey taking the last one.
Nic Clayton won the nearest to pin on the eighth hole and went on to sink his birdie putt, while Ross Bond was the nearest to pin on the 16th hole.
On Saturday, the first round of qualifying took place for the Club Championships and a stroke round took place for all competitors.
There were 105 players in the men’s field and Bryan Hunt and Craig Torney shared the round of the day with nett scores of 69 to win their grades, with Hunt topping A Grade and Torney C Grade.
In A Grade, Hunt pipped Darren Coxon by one stroke and Bailey Letizia rounded out the podium on 71 nett.
In B Grade, Leigh McCracken took home the honours with a nett score of 70.
Mathew Bowering was runner-up on a count-back from Damian Smith, who both finished with nett scores of 72.
Torney finished two strokes clear in C Grade, with Robert McClelland runner-up on 71.
Archie Milich claimed the final podium place with a score of 74.
The ball rundown extended to nett 76 and Whitehead claimed the final prize.
Stark was the nearest to the pin on the eighth hole and backed up his shot with a successful birdie put, while Michael Cutting was the nearest to the pin on the 16th.
The Club Championships qualifying will continue on Saturday, where only the top eight qualifiers from each division will move on to the match-play phase.
