Summer Salver complete

DUE to last Wednesday’s hot forecast, the field of 41 women teed off early to beat the heat in the fourth and final round of the Mount Gambier Golf Club’s Summer Salver.

Played as a par round, 13 of the field played to their handicaps or better with Sue McPherson the best of the bunch.

Her five-up off a 43 handicap earned the Division 2 win after an impressive back nine.

She registered four-up on the long-hilly back leg, while having one-up on the front nine.

Runner-up for the division was Lizzie Clements (30 handicap) with her split of two-up/square.

Clements aided her good score with pars on the ninth and 18th holes.

A count-back was required to determine the Division 1 winner.

In th end it was Janina Morrison (19) who survived to claim first place with a solid score of four-up.

Her split was one-up/three-up with eight pars, which included the 16th 17th and 18th holes.

The unlucky loser in the count-back was long-time member Bev Pedlar (20) and she was relegated to second position.

Pedlar’s split was a consistent two-up/two-up with a highlight her long putt off the green to score a birdie on the par 3, eighth hole.

The handicapper will catch up with many of the players this week.

A total of nine balls were handed out, with recipients ranging from Penn Saffin’s three-up down to Leanne Hunt’s one-down.

The pro shot went to Denise Harvey on the par 3, eighth hole.

The best score on the back nine saw balls awarded to Morrision in A Grade and McPherson in C Grade.

This week many players will be attend the Southern Ports Golf Week, while at Attumurra tomorrow’s women’s format with be a stableford round.

The women’s open day will be held next week in the form of a four-person Ambrose with either nine or 18 holes to be played.
