WITH hot weather across the region, the heat policy came into effect last week for the women’s competition at the Blue Lake Golf Club and a 7.30am tee-off time ensured everyone finished before the hot mid-day temperatures hit.

It was the first of four rounds of the Metro bakery and cafe Silver Salver played in Par format and the in-form Sue Agars was the winner of Division 1 with a resounding four up.

She set herself up strongly with five plusses and two wipes on the outward nine.

The 10th hole was halved and a lost ball on the 11th could have de-railed her but she pushed on and added three plusses and a wipe on the par five 17th hole to secure the win four up.

Karen Panagopoulos was next in line after she played consistently and signed for one down.

The outward nine was made up of three plusses, four halved holes and two wipes.

One of the plusses came from a birdie three on the dog-leg par four ninth hole to turn at one up.

The inward nine contained five halved with a plus on the par five 18th hole.

However, three wipes undid some of the good work but it was still enough to win the second-prize voucher.

The women’s captain Geraldine Scott faced a count-back for third place with Dianne Perryman as both finished two down.

Scott had a mixed bag to begin with as she picked up four wipes and five halved holes on the front nine.

However, she showed determination on the inward nine to turn the contest around with three plusses, five halved holes and just one wipe.

Perryman on the other hand, had even nines of one down and Scott claimed the count-back win with a better score on the final six holes.

In Division 2, Rose Case was again in the winner’s circle.

Case’s outward nine set the scene for a win with five plusses which helped her reach the midway point at two up.

Unfortunately the back nine proved challenging with two plusses, five wipes and two halved holes as she finished one down but it was still enough to claim the win.

Lynette Hirth claimed the second prize voucher after she ended her day two down.

It was a promising start as she ended the front nine one down after three plusses and four wipes.

Her back nine consisted of two plusses, four halved holes and three wipes.

Carol Meluish was another to go to a count-back before she claimed third prize.

Melhuish and Jaynee Oberer both returned scores of three down.

The former’s one up to Oberer’s square on the back nine proved to be the difference in the count-back.

Dianne Perryman was a nearest to pin winner in Division 1, while Oberer claimed the prize in Division 2.

Perryman also win the pro-shot and birdie prizes on the second and fifth holes.

Karen Panagopoulos also had a birdie on the long par four seventh.

Scott also won a prize for a chip-in ferret on the 11th hole.
