THE Port MacDonnell Sailing Club returned to action on Saturday and faced far more ideal conditions than what was thrown at them in recent weeks.

The steady winds of 10 knots ensured a pleasant race for the seven boats involved.

Race officer Don McLennan and committee boat driver Chris Jacobs set the buoys to mark a triangle-loop-triangle course for both races.

Farr-mer, with Dave Evans, Adrian Romescu and Brad Mann on board, was the first boat to cross the start line after a strong beginning to the race.

Tom Paltridge’s Austral20 Windy Fred was the second boat to start, and was hot on the heels of Farr-mer.

The first three boats stayed close together for the majority of the race.

There was one boat in the fleet which pulled out with problems shortly after starting, while Jennifer Jones’s Austral20 Pinky 2 dropped behind the rest of the fleet, with crew Dave Jones and Stella Harfield having to iron out small issues as it was the first time this boat took to the water.

Farr-mer took the line honours for the race, with Austral20 Papillion close behind and Windy Fred in third.

In the second race of the day, it was again Farr-mer which set the pace early with a strong start.

Austral20 Mirage, skippered by Dennis Illman crossed the start line in second place.

Illman was supported by Donnita Widdison and past commodore Morris Dickins on board.

The entire remained close together and Pinky 2 was closely pursued by Austral20 Salt Peter for the entire race.

Salt Peter almost pulled off an overtake at the last buoy but some tactical sailing from Jones meant Pinky 2 crossed the line ahead of Salt Peter.

Farr-mer took line honours again and held off Windy Fred and Papillion.
