LAST Wednesday, 29 women were eager to hit the fairways at the Blue Lake Golf Club to make the most of the predicted warm weather.

The second round of the Sorrentos Cafe Summer Trophy played in stableford format was hotly contested with impressive scores recorded.

Helen Stratford had the score of the day as she signed for 38 points.

Stratford played off a handicap of 17 and has been reduced her handicap steadily over the summer.

Her splits of 19/19 included six pars with no wipes, which was enough for her to collect the Sorrentos voucher for Division 1.

Second prize went to Sue Agars who played off a 21 handicap and scored a very handy 35 points to see off Lynda Nannings in a count-back.

Agars scored 16 points on the outward nine to put the pressure on the inward nine but she was equal to the task and picked up 19 points.

With pars on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes, Agars was in fine form and with only one wipe on the back nine, clinched second place by the barest of margins.

Nannings started the day strongly and scored 19 points on the front nine, which was highlighted by a 60-metre low-running hit which finished in the hole for a birdie on the par 5 fourth hole for 4 points.

However, despite her strong start, Nannings only picked up 16 points on the inward nine and as a result slipped to third place on a count-back.

Carol Melhuish is becoming a regular in the winner’s circle in Division 2.

Playing off 37, Melhuish had a slow start on the outward nine and only collected 15 points.

However, she turned her performance around on the inward nine and scored 19 points, which included having five three-pointers and just the one wipe.

Melhuish’s 34 points meant she was tied with Lynette Hirth but managed to take home the honours on a count-back.

It was a solid performance from Hirth with five three-pointers and only one wipe on her scorecard.

Despite her strong performance, she was punished for her one-point holes on the inward nine and was relegated to second place after an otherwise strong performance.

Dianne Allen was took home third place and has been another regular prize winner at the Blue Lake Golf Club.

Allen scored 32 points with splits of 14/18 in a round which included three three-pointers and two wipes to collect the third-place voucher.

The nearest-to-pin for the second shot on the par three 14th hole winners were Ronda Edwards in Division 1 and Rose Case in Division 2.

The pro-shot win was shared with Geraldine Scott and Lee-Anne Medhurst.

Edwards and Nannings both won a chocolate bar voucher for birdies on the fourth hole.

SATURDAY RESULTS

In very gusty conditions 14 women played in the stroke competition and Lee Anderson collected the winner’s voucher after posting 112/43/69.

Anderson scored three under the daily scratch rating of 72 in an impressive display of golf.

The front nine score of 61 looked a big task to make inroads on the back nine but is exactly what happened as she took a massive 10 strokes off and posted 51 on the inward nine.

Dianne Perryman would have also been pleased with her score of 88/18/70 and took claimed second place.

Pars were recorded on the second, 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th holes, with splits of 47/41 in a very consistent performance.

Karen Panagopoulos 95/23/72 played to her handicap with two consistent nines of 50/49 and pars on the fifth, 11th and 15th holes.

Geraldine Scott, Helen Stratford and Kate Hommelhoff all put in solid performances as well with nett scores of 74.
