ROUND 10 of Barber Shield cricket saw Mil Lel claim its first victory of the campaign off the back of a dominant performance with the ball.

The Demons were in strife when play resumed on Saturday as they trailed by 169 runs with just five wickets in hand.

Stephen Easterbrook looked to pick up where he left off the night before in the Big bash final but after combining with Jed Sims for a 37-run sixth-wicket partnership, was bowled by Logan Gibbs.

Jed Sims followed Easterbrook to the pavilion not long after as he was dismissed by Nick Walters to make it 7/70.

With just three wickets in hand and 135 runs needed for a first-innings victory, David Vine and Michael Sims were the net pair in but both fell in quick succession to make it 9/79.

Robbie Drenthen and Camron Jorgensen added 13 runs between them before Jack Miller claimed Jorgensen’s wicket to give his side their first win of the season.

The Demons were sent into bat again and Mil Lel looked to try and claim an improbable outright victory as it lead by 112 runs.

It was an ideal start to the second innings for Mil Lel as Miller bowled Vine to make it 1/13.

However, Drenthen and Adam Kuhl killed off any chances of an outright result occurring as they combined for an 83-run partnership.

Adam Kuhl scored a quick-fire 59 off just 44 balls before Shannon Megaw dismissed him LBW to bring in Ryan Kuhl.

Shortly after, stumps was called with South Gambier on 2/97.

Adam Kuhl’s 59 was the top-score of the game with the next best coming from Mil Lel’s Craig Lock on Day 1 as he scored 54 runs.

Gibbs and Walters led the way with the ball as they both took four wickets, while Miller claimed three wickets across the two innings with the ball.

With one round left before finals, Mil Lel remains in sixth place, while South Gambier occupies the last finals spot with a 9.5-point deficit to North Sportsman’s in fifth.
