Ideal conditions for second round

PERFECT golfing conditions allowed for good scores by the 44 women who teed off at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last Wednesday.

Leading the field with an unbeatable 44 points was 23-handicapper Di Norman, who played eight shots under her handicap.

Her split showed a consistent 22/22 points, with a birdie on the par 3 sixth hole, five three-pointers and only one blemish on the 17th.

Normally 41 points would have won the competition, but 20-handicapper Denise Harvey had to be content with second place.

Her split was 20/21 points, with a birdie on the par 3 eighth hole, five pars, no wipe-outs and a genuine 88 off the stick.

Another good score came from Division 2, with Sue Ryan (handicap 39) registering a consistent round of 19/20 points.

He card showed she had four-pointers on the 11th and 18th holes and six three-pointers, for three under her handicap.

Club stalwart Jane Lamont (handicap 36) had 35 points for second place in Division 2.

She also played consistent golf, her split being 18/17 points, plus six three-pointers.

For the ball run-down 11 balls were handed out to players with scores 40 points to 33.

Kathy Ewer claimed three balls for the pro shot and best front nine went to A Grade’s Harvey, B Grade’s Norman and C Grade’s Lizzie Clements.

This week’s event will be the third round of the Summer Salver.

Meanwhile, cool and windy conditions greeted the 27 women for Saturday’s stableford competition.

Continuing with her impressive form from Wednesday, Norman,now with a handicap of 21, registered a score of 40 points to take out the win.

Her split was a consistent 20/20 points, with five three-pointers, no wipe-outs and a genuine 90 off the stick.

Clements finished with 39 points from a split of 20/19, which included five three-pointers and a birdie on the 12th hole.

New player Trudy Johnson also played under her handicap of 31, with a split of 17/20 for her 37 points.

Her best golf was played on the difficult back nine.
