Top weekend for shooters

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its annual two-day Supershoot in favourable conditions.

Many dedicated trap shooters travelled to the Mount Gambier club, which was well-presented, with all equipment in excellent condition as the committee and members had spent considerable time preparing for a successful event.

The Friday was practice in the afternoon, with many shooters taking advantage to fine tune their guns and mindset.

Early morning practice on the Saturday resulted in shooters arriving early, with the competition starting at 10am.

The 107 competitors travelled from Victoria, NSW and all over SA to contest the six events held across two days vying for a share of the $21,000 worth of prizes on offer.

Each event saw prizes for the grades AA, A, B, C, from first place down to fifth.

High Gun prizes over the two days events were awarded to Overall, Grades, Veteran, Ladies and Junior.

The Pick Avenue Deli and Bakery 25 target Pointscore kicked off proceedings and with some shooters attaining a perfect score, shoot-offs were needed in all grades.

The Mount Gambier Community Bank 25 target Single Barrel was next up and again the shooters were in fine form, with more perfect scores attained and once shoot-offs required.

The South West Freight 25 target Double Barrel was the last event for the opening day and again the shooters showed fine marksmanship, with 25 competitors shooting perfect scores.

The George Yoannidis Club Team Competition was held over the three events on Saturday with the team entry conditions being one competitor from grades AA, A, B, C plus one from Veterans, Lady or Junior from the same club.

The Mount Gambier “Jerry’s” team of AA Don Pratt, A Peter Winser, B Brian Case, C Garry Bowd, and Steve Chambers Veteran won the $500 prize money, sponsored by Guy Yoannidis.

A Junior Highgun prize for the day was donated by Scott Fleming with Harry Brown and Tom Clark sharing the cartridges as prizes.

Sunday saw more high scores and shoot-offs again the order of the day.

Event four, the Zema Estate Winery 25 target Single Barrel was up first, with an overall prize in memorial to the late Matt Zema, consisting of personally selected premium bottles of Zema Estate wine and a shooting jacket, with the overall winner David Fenn 25/25.

Event 5 was the Winchester Australia 25 target Pointscore, with Winchester cartridges up for grabs and even in the windy conditions, shoot-offs were again needed.
