Penola will look to return serve when it faces West Gambier in Round 10 of Barber Shield cricket on Saturday.

The two-day clash is a chance for the Eagles to play the long game against the in-form Roos.

West sits top of the ladder, with Penola down in third, with the post-season fast approaching.

Last time the two side met was back in Round 3 and West made short work of its task in the one-day fixture.

Penola was sent into bat and could only manage 125 runs off its allotted 40 overs.

The top order laid a solid foundation, but only Lewis March went on with the job, with 42 runs.

After the team century was reached, the wickets began to tumble, with not much support down the order.

Bray Stephenson did the damage with the ball, claiming four wickets for a miserly 24 runs off eight over.

That left a tall order for the Eagles to defend, which they were unable to do.

Much of that was thanks to a half-century to Jake Blackwell, with some support as the wickets began to fall.

West reached a total of 186 off its 40 overs, with the wickets shared around by the Eagles.

It will be a tough task for Penola, but if they can set a big target, or limit the damage by the West bats, they will be in with a good chance to further cement their position in the top four.
