THE first of nine monthly medals at the Blue Lake Golf Club took place last week, with Rosemary Martland the winner.

Playing off a 13 handicap, Martland is one of only a handful of low handicappers in the women’s section and has shown her strengths on the course lately.

As well as the medal, she also took top spot on the podium for Division 1, signing for 86/13/73.

The front nine gross score of 43 included pars on the first, second and sixth holes, along with a back-nine score, also of 43, with pars on the 11th, 15th and 16th.

Double-bogies on the fifth, 17th and 18th holes were her only blemishes on an otherwise good card.

Runner-up honours to South Africa visitor Elca Faure, who would have been pleased with one of her last hits on the course before returning home this week.

Faure plays off 15 and had two consistent nines of 45 to finish with nett 75.

She had pars on the third, fifth, ninth and 11th holes, with double-bogeys on the fourth, 12th and 15th.

Co-captain Helen Myers finished third (98/20/78) after a count-back from Lee-Anne Medhurst (102/24/78).

The top scorers in Division 2 unfortunately struggled on the monthly medal course set-up and all had a little too much red ink on their scorecards.

Lyn Annand was the first over the line, posting 109/34/75, which included pars on the fifth and ninth holes that boosted her score of 52 strokes on the front nine.

However, her score blew out a little on the back nine with 57.

Runner-up went to Jaynee Oberer signing for 110/33/77, with splits of 55/55 and only one par, on the long par 5 fourth hole.

Third place-getter was Lucy Richards (110/32/78) beating Jo Gogan, Lyn Gill and Bev Pascoe in a four-way tie all signing for nett 78.

Nearest to the pin second-shot winners on the 16th were Division 1’s Josie Ashby and Division 2’s Jo Gogan.

Ashby also claimed the pro-shot on the fifth hole.

Martland and Oberer were the best with the flat stick, winning a ball for the least putts.

Lesley McPherson won chocolate bar vouchers for her birdie/ferret on the 14th hole.

Meanwhile, the first round of the inaugural Jetts Fitness Mount Gambier Summer Cup was well supported on Saturday with 15 women attending.

Five stroke rounds will be run in conjunction with the men’s monthly medal stroke competitions over the next five months.

Martland, having a good run at the moment, received points with the top score of 73 nett as well as the Blue Lake Golf Club voucher for first place.

Martland (86/13/73) had five pars along with a birdie on the par 3 fifth hole, also giving her the nearest to pin prize.

Splits of 43/43 showed consistency, falling short with four double-bogies.

McPherson followed with 105/31/74 to claim second place after a count-back from Ronda Edwards (88/14/74).

McPherson had pars on the 15th and 16th holes and gross 49 after a slow start of 56 on the front.

Edwards had 45 on the front, with pars on the first and second holes.

Her back nine score of 43 included pars on the 12th, 14th and 16th holes, but double-bogeys on the 13th and 17th were her undoing.

Dianne Perryman (92/17/75) and Jorja Morale (99/24/75) were the next best.

Morale won the longest drive on the sixth hole with an enormous hit, which she is renowned for.
