WANDERERS showed its strength on Saturday, with a strong victory over Warriors in their Mount Gambier softball clash.

The game provided plenty of entertainment, as Wanderers managed seven extra-base hits in their 13 safe hits for the day, to out-hit Warriors, who managed six collectively.

For Warriors it was Bec White and Clare Chaplin who shone, managing to hit safely twice each, while for Wanderers’ best at the plate were Lily Clifford Finch, Fiona Finch and Rej Smith, who all picked up three safe hits.

Wanderers applied the pressure early, with a 7-0 lead through the first three innings until Warriors pegged it back with three of there own in the top of the third.

Unfortunately for Warriors, there was not much more to come on the score board as the hitting dried up, with just one more run for the game.

A slice of luck went Charli Kaigg’s way which led to her achieving her first triple for the season, as did Fiona Finch.

How ever the highlight of the day with the bat was the inside-the-park home run which was ripped down the left field line off the bat of Lily Clifford-Finch.

Clifford-Finch then showed her speed to make it home safely.

Warriors third base – Ange Queale – was outstanding all day, pulling off three impressive plays, all from hard-hit balls.

However, she saved the best for last with a catch off a line drive and turned it in to a double play single handily.

Erin Chaplin was solid on the mound for Warriors, pitching the entire game, as was Rej Smith doing the same for Wanderers.

Both managed minimal walks, with a couple of strike outs each.

In the end the Wanderers hitting was just too strong which showed in the 14-4 result.

Meanwhile, it was another classic Concordes v Concordes clash, with White taking on United.

White brought Sonia Wilson out of retirement to take three nice catches at second base, to prove she can still cut it.

It was a tight encounter early on, with the defence holding sway, as United displayed some strong fielding to keep White scoreless.

Sarah Thomson took a diving catch after running in from a deep second and there was an impressive team combination from first and third bases’ Bec Von Duve and Leonie McCallum.

United was able to get a run on the board in the second innings thanks to an RBI triple to Dana Jones that scored Narelle Walker.

They then put on three more in the fourth innings thanks to four consecutive safe hits from Jones, Thompson, McCallum and Codie Jackway.

Walker crossed the plate for a second time in the last innings to see the final result a victory to United 5-0 in a good-spirited encounter.
