WITH much cooler weather prevailing, a full complement of women chased bragging rights in a stableford competition at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

The score of the day was posted by Division 1’s Sue Agars.

Off a 21 handicap consistency has been the key for Agars lately and this time she claimed the top prize voucher with a resounding 38 points.

Splits of 17/21 included pars on the second, fourth, 13th and 16th holes, along with a birdie four-points on the dog-leg 15th.

A wipe on the par five third hole was the only blemish on her otherwise near-perfect card.

Playing off 20, Helen Myers followed with 33 points from 16 points on the outward nine and 17 on the inward nine, which included pars on the second and 14th par 3 holes, with a wipe on the 13th.

Third place went to captain Geraldine Scott off a handicap of 23, who signed for 32 points.

After a slow start on the outward nine garnering only 14 points and one par on the fifth hole, she able to hold on to score 18 on the inward nine, with par’s on the 12th and 14th holes.

In Division 2 Dianne Allen is another slowly lowering her handicap and this round of 35 points could see it adjusted from 39.

Consistent nines of 18/17 and no wipes on her card coupled with six three-pointers showed she deserved her win.

Second place went to Jaynee Oberer who often plays better than her score indicates.

She just needs to try and eliminate a few errant shots to bring her handicap of 34 down.

Signing for 34 points from seven three-pointers and three wipes, it was a slow start, scoring only 13 points on the front nine then tackling the back nine with gusto for 21 points.

A count-back was required for third place between Lynette Hirth and Lyn Annand, both with 30 points.

Hirth was given the nod.

Hirth had three-pointers and a four-pointer from splits of 14/16.

Nearest to the pin second-shot winners on the 14th hole were Division 1’s Cherryl Hill and Division 2’s Lucy Richards.

The pro-shot winner was Dianne Perryman, with birdie and ferret prizes won by Agars on the 15th hole, Rosemary Martland on the fifth and 11th and Richards on the 14th.

Saturday provided cool conditions, which attracted a good-size field of 15 women.

It seemed the players who hit off the back nine first fared better than their counterparts who teed off the front nine first, as the first three placing did just that.

Winner Carol Megaw used her 30 handicap with ease and had plusses on the 11th and 17th holes, along with a wipe on the 12th, then squaring the remaining holes.

Turning to the front nine at +1, Megaw added five plusses along with wipes on the second and sixth hole to finish +4 and edge out Helen Stratford who signed for +3.

Playing off 18 Stratford would have been pleased with her game playing steady golf, turning to the front nine +2 to add plusses on the first and fourth holes.

Wipes on the second and sixth reduced her overall score to plus three.

Lyn Annand off 34 followed with plus two.

Starting off the 10th hole she had four plusses with wipes on the 11th and 17th holes, repeating it on the front nine with two plusses and two wipes to finish in third place.

Cherryl Hill and Karen Panagopoulos both tied at all square.

Hill had a birdie on the par 3 second hole and five plusses, but too many wipes keeping her out of the winner’s circle.
