THE Barber Shield cricket match-up of the round will be contested between North Sportsman’s and West Gambier over the next two weeks.

Back in the two-day format, ladder leader West will look to further cement itself at the head of the pack, while the Tigers need a win if they are to start moving up the order.

The Tigers have had four of their eight fixtures abandoned due to weather which has greatly disrupted their season so far.

However, tomorrow’s forecast looks promising and all going to plan we should see some cricket played.

The Roos have been in fine form this season with their only loss against South Gambier in Round 5, where the Demons’ bowling attack reigned supreme.

However, that was West’s only completed two-day game, so focus will be on an improved performance over the longer format this time around.

Jake Blackwell has been the Roos’ highest scorer with a total of 159 runs for 2022-23, for an average of 26.5 per game.

Nuwan Gunawardana and Bray Stephenson have also been solid at the crease, while Sam Willis is another strong option with bat in hand.

The top performers with the ball are the same culprits, while Kyal Chapman is also a consistent wicket taker.

For North two wins and two losses leave it in fifth place with three rounds left to play.

Previously a leader in the competition, the Tigers will be hungry for a finals berth and need a couple more wins to make that a reality.

Nick McInerney is a key run-maker and if he returns from today’s Country Championship duties in time for tomorrow, will be an important piece of the puzzle should North bat first.

He is equally capable with the ball, while young-gun Elliott Fisher has been in impressive form of late.

West will enter day one confident in its form, but North can never be ruled out of the contest.
