LIMESTONE Coast archers enjoyed their final hit out before the Blue Lake Archers Invitational Tournament weekend of events commencing tonight.

Indoor and outdoor rounds last weekend were the last chance to set up equipment and top up match fitness ahead of the tournament.

Friday night the pair of 18-metre Australian rounds had eight archers tuning and checking while also trying their best to claim a win for the night.

Fiona Allison made the most of her improving accuracy to dominate the night in both rounds.

It was a case of who could challenge for the runner up position.

With handicap score adjustments in place, it was Tamika Mullan who powered home to make it an all-female front row in the opening round, claiming second spot seven points behind Allison.

Both Allison and Mullan were able to beat their benchmark scores, but this earned them both a tweak from the handicap system for the second round.

After a lower-than-desired result in round one, Paul Freeman hit his straps in the second round to be the foil to Allison’s dominating adjusted score.

Freeman picked claimed the runner-up position, seven points off Allison’s score, edging out Mullan by three points.

A hot day on Sunday was counteracted by running the outdoor event early in the day instead of the traditional afternoon timing.

A split event was again a feature of the day.

Both rounds selected were 72-arrow rounds to ensure the day’s event was over before the heat built up.

Australian Archery 30/720 and Townsville rounds fitted the bill and the archers were free to nominate into either.

The best overall handicap score regardless of the round was to be the winner of the day.

After a solid effort at the indoor, Allison was keen to put the pressure on for the outdoor round and did it in style.

The benchmark of 720 points for the 72 arrow rounds was obliterated, Allison finishing on an adjusted score of 793 points, with daylight back to second position.

Anthony Cox was the best of the rest, also finishing over the benchmark on 732 points.

The club will be set and run the tournament weekend this week, with the general public invited to spectate at any or all of the three competitions conducted.

Upcoming events: Indoor archery QRE at Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park Friday at 7pm followed by the 2023 Blue Lake Archers Invitational Tournament outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 10 am Saturday.

Rounding out the weekend will be a Clout round commencing at 9am Sunday.
