Busy weekend for archers

A FULL bill of archery for Blue Lake Archers over the weekend produced different winners in each of the three events run.

Indoors on Friday night the standard fare of a pair of Australian 18 metre rounds was the challenge. Tamika Mullan put in a superb effort with her off-the-bow score only just shaded by Jeff Puckridge by two points.

The adjusted scores gave the win to Mullan by six points over Puckridge.

Backing up for the second round of the night Paul Freeman threw his hat into the ring vying for the top spot.

However, a tied adjusted score with Mullan was not enough for the pair to dislodge Puckridge from the winner’s circle, with four points separating him and eventual runner-up Freeman.

Another simultaneous round was run outdoors on Sunday afternoon, with a three-distance World Archery 60/900 and a single distance Geelong round gracing the score sheets.

Having taken a back seat in the indoor rounds, Fiona Allison was keen to impress in the outdoor event.

The Geelong round Anthony Cox and Allison were competing in seems simpler, with a single distance of 30 metres, but the handicap rating system dials that in, making it a level playing field for all competing.

As the day wound down the power shift was notably toward the pair competing in the Geelong round, Allison making up for lost opportunities as she and Cox finished above the handicap benchmark to take the first two places.

As Christmas day falls on Sunday, there is no outdoor round scheduled.

Blue Lake Archers wish everyone a merry Christmas.

Indoor archery continues at Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7 pm.
