THE Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association representative team will play its first game of the year on Sunday when it visits the Wimmera Mallee Cricket Association in the Festival of Cricket.

The Mount Gambier side will see some of the best players from the Barber Shield team up to take on Wimmera Mallee at Coughlin Park.

Wimmera Mallee has already played two games in the Festival of Cricket and returned one win and one loss.

The hosts will look to Edward Landwehr, who scored 42 runs in their win over Hamilton two weeks ago.

He was supported by Aaron Schofield and Jacob Patching who both made handy contributions with the bat.

With the ball, Landwehr and Patching both made their impact felt with two wickets each and the visitors will need to be wary of their ability.

For Mount Gambier, captain Nick McInerney will look to back up his impressive form with bat and ball.

He will also be supported by veteran Robbie Drenthen, who has been in stellar form this year.

Jack Mullan will also be a key player for Mount Gambier and will look to build some momentum in rep cricket before he sets sail for Canberra to play for the SA Outbacks in the Country Championships.

With this being the first time Mount Gambier has competed against Western Victorian sides in several years, there is quite the unknown about how this game will turn out.
