MOUNT Gambier Lakers men look set to chalk up another couple of wins on the weekend in a Country Basketball League double-header road trip.

The Lakers head to Torquay on Saturday to take on the Surfcoast Chargers, before backing up on Sunday with a clash against the Colac Kookas.

As it sits, after a couple of recent losses to Horsham Hornets in Round 9 and Ararat Redbacks in Round 10 – the Lakers slipped down to second spot on the ladder, trailing the Redbacks by just one victory.

In those losses the Lakers were undermanned and let the Hornets come from behind to claim the win.

Against the Redbacks the Lakers were down to five men on a hot day, which took its toll.

Since then the Lakers bounced back, with a strong win over Millicent Magic last week, despite also being undermanned.

Simon Berkefeld lifted a notch and turned in a blinder to score 37 points in a dominant performance.

Even the magic coach was in awe of his performance.

The men continued that roll on Sunday, with a strong victory over Warrnambool with a more-complete roster.

That momentum, along with the previous result against the Chargers, makes for a tough night for bottom-placed Surfcoast, even on its home court.

Back in Round 7 the Lakers were victorious to the tune of 69 pints in a dominant display at the Icehouse.

The Kookas sit further up the ladder in sixth place, but also had little luck against the Lakers back in Round 3.

Once again at the Icehouse, the Lakers emerged victorious by 30 points.

With the Redbacks having a bye this weekend, the Lakers could well regain top spot with a solid two-day performance.
