Hams on offer at annual Port MacDonnell event

PORT MacDonnell Bowling Club’s annual Christmas Ham, Cake and Pudding Day was held on Sunday.

A field of 64 players from across the Mount Gambier RSL, Portland, Portland RSL, Robe, Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell clubs competed for the many prizes.

At the end of the day Robe’s team of skipper Steve Farrell, Patrick and Helen Lynch and Kerrie Pedlar claimed first place with a total of 128 points.

Second went to Tim Wrightson’s rink of Jennie Tilley, Roma Hemderson, Lance Fisher from Port MacDonnell on 111 points.

A combined Port MacDonnell/Mount Gambier/Mount Gambier RSL team of Eddy Smith, Jim Philpot, Maryka Heaver and Brenton Wittwer came a close third with 110 points.

Another combined side finished in fourth, with Glen Ross, Wayne Ross, Daniel Langdon and Sarah Ross from Robe, Millicent and Mount Gambier totalling 107 Points

The final placing went to Alby McIntyre, David Beaman, Shirley McIntyre, Julie Beaman from Mount Gambier RSL and Port MacDonnell on 94.

PENNANTS

In a rare occurence in the Friday Pennant competition, there were draws all around for Port MacDonnell and Mount Gambier RSL’s Division 1 sides.

The teams both finished with 42 shots and four points to share the points for the round.

While a draw is not unheard of, both rinks were also draws, as Heather Richards, Carol Schmidt, Jennie Tilley and Nallia Lucas tied with Jennifer Bowering, Veronica Opie, Beryl Messenger and Sandi Elliott 22-all.

Not to be out done, Jan Dowdell, Robin Burley, Roma Henderson and Sharon Perryman also drew with Joy Bilney, Diane Marie Adams, Shirley Gifford and Carmel McQuade 20-all.

The Port MacDonnell Division 2 side hosted Robe and lost.

In Saturday’s Open Pennant, Port MacDonnell’s Division 1 team won on all three rinks against Kingston 88/12 to 55/0.

Divison 3 Blue lost to Mount Gambier RSL 46/0 to 68/12, while the Red team also lost with a 60/4 to 70/8 result against Mount Gambier RSL Red.
