Marshall re-signs for 2023

HE'S BACK: Mount Gambier Pioneers 2022 MVP Nick Marshall will return to the side for 2023.

IN exciting news for the Mount Gambier Pioneers, the club announced that Nick Marshall has re-signed for 2023 after a dominant year at the Icehouse.

In his second season with the Pioneers, Marshall reached new heights and was a pivotal player for Mount Gambier as it reached the NBL1 South final this year.

The 23-year-old scored 21.46 points per game this year with a field goal percentage of 50.25 and averaged eight rebounds per game.

His consistent performances across the season saw him clam the Pioneers’ MVP for 2022.

Marshall is currently in his second season as a contracted development player for the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL.

His improvement has seen him earn increased game time for the 36ers and recently made an impact in the USA during the NBL preseason.

Marshall was a member of the Adelaide side which claimed a historic victory over the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.

With the recent announcement that Pioneers stalwart Tom Daly will depart the club, the re-signing of their most valuable player proves all the more vital as he can play both as a guard and small forward and will look to cover the void left by the former captain.

Mount Gambier head coach Richard Hill was ecstatic to see Marshall returning next season.

“It’s great to have our 2022 MVP returning and even better being able to announce this after he’s had a career-high 15 points for the 36ers,” Hill said.

“Nick brings a rare versatility and athleticism to our team.

“His improvement and rise comes as no surprise as his work ethic is outstanding and a tremendous example to his teammates.”

The Pioneers will commence their 2023 NBL1 South season in April next year.
