Penola has claimed its second Barber Shield win of the season after impressive performances from Jack Mullan and Mark Smith.

After the Bulldogs claimed a wicket late on Day 1, there was still a chance for the visitors to take something away from the game.

East Gambier then claimed the wicket of Jack Schulz in the opening half an hour to make it 2/80 and Penola needed another 60 runs for a first innings victory.

However, Mullan showed why he is one of the best batters in the competition and thwarted any chance his opponents had of taking something away from the game.

Mullan combined with Mark Smith to take the contest away from the Bulldogs.

Smith added a solid 49 runs to his team’s total, while Mullan scored 61 runs off 124 balls.

Asides from Smith and Mullan, , Schulz, Lachy Jones and Josh Doyle all made handy contributions down the order to help the Eagles soar.

Despite the fact Penola surpassed East Gambier’s first innings total, it was still an impressive game from left-arm spinner Emerson Marks.

Marks ended with figures of 4/37 off 25.5 overs including eight maidens.

Alongside Marks, Alex Hentschke, Angus Clarke and Marc Roberts all claimed two scalps each.

The Bulldogs then went into bat for 20 overs, where Dion Stratford posted an impressive unbeaten score of 36 off 30 balls.

His quick-fire cameo included three 4’s and two 6’s.

James Sullivan also made a handy contribution to bring an end to any chance of Penola taking an outright win with 25 runs off 46 balls.
