Clements wins championship

LAST Wednesday saw the final of the Women’s Handicap Championship at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

The final was contested between Leanne Hunt and Lizzie Clements in what tunred out to be a neck and neck battle.

After 19 holes, Clements eventually claimed victory with only two shots difference between the pair the entire way through.

In the stableford competition also played on Wednesday, 37 women took to the field.

In Division 1, Carol Davis continued her impressive run of form to card a great score of 39 points.

She was followed closely by Bernie Jennings, who was a close runner-up on 37 points.

Davis scored five pars and a birdie, while Jennings added four pars and a birdie.

In Division 2, Vicki Clarke claimed victory with a narrow victory over Rosalie Hunt.

Clarke scored 35 points, while Rosalie Hunt was close behind on 34.

The novelty prizes went to Marie Douglas with the nearest the pin on the eighth hole.

The long drives on the 17th hole went to Karen Forster, Vicki Clarke and Debbie Sheather.

On Saturday, there were 18 women who took to the field with newcomer, Trudy Johnson making an impression with a score of 39 points.

Johnson claimed victory ahead of Marie Douglas on 37 points, while Di O’Donnell rounded out the top three on 35.

The final competition for trophies was held on Thursday night with Helen Gregory taking home the putting, eclectic, best three rounds and best overall score for the season honours.

On Wednesday, there will be a three-person Ambrose event held at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.
