THE Icehouse will roar into life tonight when a much-anticipated clash between Mount Gambier and Millicent tips off.

The Round 8 Country Basketball League fixture provides a top-of-the-table clash and the cross-town rivalry of Millicent and Mount Gambier to ensure an action-packed contest.

The Lakers sit unbeaten at the top of the ladder with six wins, while the Magic sit second on five wins and one loss.

Both sides come off a strong weekend where they each claimed two victories and both boast strong rosters capable of claiming the win.

The Lakers enjoy the services of Pioneers player and team coach Kane deWit, along with the classy Simon Berkefeld who has not put a foot wrong since his return to the competition.

Youngster Ben Young has been in ominous form this season, while jak Ryan provides some real strength around the basket.

For Millicent, the Bradley boys in Frazer and Kade have been in exceptional form recently, as have Jackson Bowden and jack Haggett.

While the Lakers have the home-court advantage, it will mean little in the cross-town hitout as all players would be quite familiar with the Mount Gambier venue.

A fast running game can be excepted and it could come down to simple mistakes.

The side that takes care of the ball better and claims plenty of rebounds at the defensive end of the floor will have the upper hand, but it will not come easy.

Much depends on who lines up for each side, with both down on numbers throughout the early part of the season.

Either way those who attend are sure to be entertained prior to the Junior tournament the following two days.

The game tips off at 8pm tonight.
