THURSDAY STABLEFORD

GRAHAM Robinson and Tony McGregor were the best of a field of 100 players at the Mount Gambier Golf Club on Thursday with an impressive 41 points apiece.

However, it was Robinson who claimed the stableford winner’s cheque in the end by virtue of a countback.

Just one point further back was Gordon Bignell on 40 points, followed by Rob McIntyre and Rob Sims both on 39.

The trio of Richard Gosling, Kevin Cook and John Gee all finished with 38 points.

The standard on the day required players to score 36 points or better to secure a ball.

A total of 14 players managed to post a birdie two on one of the par 3’s with Craig Foster and Bruce Richardson carding two each.

Nearest-the-pin went to Mike Atwell on the eighth hole and Peter Lock on the 16th with both players happily rolling in their respective birdie putts.

SATURDAY STABLEFORD

The round of the day in Saturday’s stableford competition came from Paul Kenny, who put together a fine 40 points.

He was off to the perfect start with a birdie on the first hole for four points.

From there he played steady golf with his only wipe for the day on the 15th.

A return of 21 points on the front nine and 19 on the back allowed him to claim B Grade by four points over Haydn Dow on 36.

Dow’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the eighth hole.

Scott Whicker won C Grade on a countback from Nathan Taylor after both players posted 39 points.

Whicker’s round was highlighted by a birdie two and the nearest-the-pin prize on the difficult 16th.

In A Grade Rob McIntyre posted 38 points to defeat Lachlan Rees by one on 37.

The ball rundown extended to 33 points with John Gee taking the last one.

Nearest-the-pin on the eighth hole went to Graham Robinson who, like Whicker, was able to roll in his birdie putt.
