Pleasant conditions welcomed at sea

BLUE SKIES: Harmony and Miki Moto in close quarters during Saturday's race meeting at Port MacDonnell. Picture: Submitted

AFTER the previous meeting was cancelled due to bad weather, Saturday’s blue skies were a welcome sight for sailors at the Port MacDonnell Sailing Club.

With assistance from Chris Jacobs on the rescue boat, race officer Nick Watson set a typical triangle-loop-triangle course for the third race of the season.

Only five boats were on the water for the two races, with Stephen Dyble’s Austral20 Minty crossing the start line first and Don McLennan on Harmony close behind in race one.

The two 145 dinghies missed the starting sequence and both boats had a delayed start to the first race.

The light winds proved challenging for all boats, with the wind direction changing constantly.

Even with the tricky winds Harmony managed to take a considerable lead and was the first boat across the finish line.

Peter Douglas’ 145 Em and the Boys did well to catch up after the late start and was the second boat to cross the finish line.

However, on handicap adjustments, Minty pushed into second, with Em and the Boys in third.

The wind picked up just before the start of the second race which made it quicker and more enjoyable for everyone.

Both 145 dinghies had good starts with Miki Moto, skippered by Sharon Holmes, starting the race first, with Em and the Boys close behind.

The fleet was much closer in the second race with the lead trading hands throughout.

However, Harmony pushed its nose in front at the right time and claimed the line honours once more.

Em and the Boys was also second across the line for race two, but was delegated to fifth after handicap adjustments.

Salt Peter took second place after the adjustments, while Miki Moto rounded out the podium.
