NORTH GAMBIER 8.8 (56) d KYBYBOLITE 0.1 (1)

ROUND 4 of Limestone Coast Women’s Under 16 football was held at Vansittart Park under lights on Friday.

The fixture opened with a one-sided affair between home team North Gambier and Kybybolite.

The Tigers were off to a quick start on their home deck with eight scoring shots in the opening quarter.

They converted three to be up by 23 points at the first change, before Kyby could put the brakes on somewhat in the second term.

Despite holding the hosts to just three minor scores, the visitors were only able to convert a single behind, leaving plenty of work to do after half time.

Albeit that would be Kyby’s only impact on the scoreboard for the night, while North finished accurately with three straight goals in the third quarter, followed by two in the fourth.

At the final siren the damage was 55 points, which handed North a percentage-boosting win to keep it safely locked in second place.

Top performers for the match were Georgia Gentile, Heidi Berkin and Yenna Joyce, with the former named best on ground.

Goals were shared around, with all three girls adding one each as the Tigers enjoyed seven individual goal kickers.

Jazz Cowling was the only Tiger to score multiple, with two majors to her name, along with a mention in the best.

Penny Coleman and Luca Roulstone also upheld their recent form to be named among the top contributors.

For Kyby it was a tough day at the office, but Amelia Frick provided some highlights as she played a best-on-ground game.

Summer Batchelor and Zara East were also valuable for the northern Tigers, who are yet to taste victory this season.

SOUTH GAMBIER 4.10 (34) d KONGORONG 2.1 (13)

The second match of the night was a grand final rematch between South Gambier and Kongorong.

However, unlike the 2021-22 decider, the Hawks could not get the job done, with the Demons’ supply into the forward line pushing them into the winner’s box.

Kongorong had the better of the first quarter and kicked two goals to South’s 1.1.

An inaccurate second term had the Demons register seven unanswered behinds, which was enough to stick their nose in front heading into the main break.

A tight third term followed, with just one minor score for the term from South, with three points the difference heading into the final stanza.

With the game still in the balance, the Demons put the foot down and a three-goal quarter sealed the deal for a 21-point triumph.

Jarrah Altschwager was in impressive form and the vice captain received the best-on-ground honours for the victors, while Isabella Morello, Lilah Rowe, Sophie Wight and Tilly Salmon also played their roles well.

All four goals for the match came off a different boot, with Altschwager joined by Bailey Broome, Lilah Rowe and Wight on the scorer’s list.

Kongorong looked to Lilly Gordon as best-on-ground, while Cedar Scott and Jordy Heraper also featured highly.

Stevie Collins and Lacey Hannaford both found the big sticks, but in the end the Hawks lacked the firepower on the night.

After four rounds Hatherleigh – who enjoyed a bye this round – remains on top of the premiership table undefeated.

North sits in second a win clear in either direction, while South has a one-win advantage over fourth-placed Kongorong and Kyby sits in fifth.
