Olympic trophy contested at Attamurra

THE second round of the Olympic Trophy was contested by 41 women at the Mount Gambier Golf Club on Wednesday in rainy conditions.

Andrea Pegler continued her impressive form in Division 1 and claimed first place with a score one under her handicap and registered nett 72.

Pegler was consistent throughout her round with 44 off the stick on the front nine, followed by 47 on the difficult back nine.

Helen Gregory was a close-second, just one shot behind with a nett score of 73.

Gregory played the back nine exceptionally well with 42 off the stick in a performance which included a birdie on the par 5 17th hole.

In Division 2, Jill Johnson put in a strong performance to claim first place with a consistent 65/55 for a nett score of 74.

Once again, Lizzie Clements posted a good nett score of 77 with splits of 56/58.

With a large field of competitors, the ball rundown went to nine women with nett scores ranging from 74-80, while Heather Barry won the pro-shot on the par 3 eighth hole.

Played in conjunction to the stroke round, five women chose to play stableford and Penne Saffin was the winner with 29 points.

There were 11 women who teed off on Saturday for a stableford competition, with weather conditions making it difficult but two players played below their handicaps.

Vicki Clark claimed first place with an impressive score of 39 points.

Clark picked up 22 points on the back nine, which included four points on the 12th and 17th holes.

The Ladies’ captain, Jan Shanahan, also recorded a strong score of 38 points, with her consistent golf rewarded as she ended with points splits of 20/18.

On November 9, a stableford competition will be played alongside the quarter-finals of the handicap championship.
